Cinco De Mayo: Jalepeño Margaritas

Happy Cinco De Mayo, Friends!

In need of a last minute margarita recipe?!  I’ve got you covered!  This week we’ve been whipping up margaritas in celebration of Cinco De Mayo!  And let’s be real…. any reason to have margs is a good one in my book!

A few years back, we took a trip to Cabo and were first introduced to the Jalepeño Margarita.  Its changed our margarita drinking game forever!  If you are looking to spice things up (see what I did there….) and are looking for a margarita with a little kick to it, here you have it!

One thing to keep in mind with this recipe is that is requires fresh squeezed limes.  This is so important because its takes your margaritas to the next level in terms in of freshness and taste.  Everything has to be fresh!  So if you don’t have a juicer (either electric or handheld will do), then grab one when you are at the store!  Most grocery stores will have them.  You don’t want to be squeezing limes cave man style like I was this week when I couldn’t find my juicer!

Enjoy friends!  And remember to drink tequila responsibly 🙂 🙂 🙂

Cinco De Mayo: Jalepeño Margaritas
Recipe type: Cocktails
Prep time:
Total time:
Serves: 4

Cinco De Mayo: Jalepeño Margaritas
Ingredients
  • 1 cup tequila
  • ½-1 sliced jalapeño pepper (remove seeds), plus one for garnish
  • ¼ cup of Grand Marnier
  • ½ cup of fresh lime juice, plus a lime for garnish
  • ¼ cup of orange juice
  • A splash of sparkling water
  • Course salt for garnish (optional)
Instructions
  1. Pour the tequila into a pitcher. Add the sliced jalapeños to the pitcher and let sit for 15-30 minutes. The amount of jalapeños will depend on how hot the peppers are (I find that all are a little different in terms of their kick). The longer they sit in the tequila the stronger the spice.
  2. Make the margaritas by adding the Grand Marnier, lime juice, and orange juice to the infused tequila.
  3. Add a splash of sparkling water. This is to slightly diffuse the margarita mix. Add a little at a time and find the strength that you prefer.
  4. Garnish your cups with salt (if you wish) and a lime.
Notes
I found that about 4 squeezed limes gave me about ½ a cup of fresh lime juice, but it all depends on the size of the limes and how ripe they are. Find the biggest and softest limes that you can get your hands on and you're in business!
