Alright friends! Its royal wedding time and like most people I’m obsessing over what Meghan Markle is going to wear on the big day. Working in bridal, we see so many trends go in and out and it can be hard to predict whether someone will choose to go true to their style or step outside the box. My personal suggestion is to wear something that makes you feel the most beautiful that is also a representation of your own personal style. No one wants to look back on their choice and think, that just wasn’t me. But that’s just my two sense…. moving on to the royal wedding!!!
I’ve been seeing so many great predictions on what Meghan may wear. All the top wedding designers are making their predictions this week and many have come up with gowns that they think represent what the soon-to-be princess will wear. Some are thinking the gown will be designed by Ralph & Russo, the British design house who created her dress from her engagement photos. Some are saying Christopher Bailey who is the outgoing president of Burberry. Others are calling Roland Mouret because she is known for wearing his designs reguarlary. He’s also known for his draping and is a well known British designer (although native to France). I’m sharing some of my predictions with you all and also showing you some of the amazing creations some of my favorite bridal designers are coming up with!
A couple interesting things to note…
- Royal weddings typically have gowns that are designed by British designers. Do we think Megan will follow suit being American? I personally don’t think she would be afraid to step out of the box on this one. There are so many designers to choose from….. But she does seem to have connections with British designers and has been known to wear their styles in the past.
- She’s been married before which is typically frowned upon by the Crown and so maybe all rules are out the window?!? Since she has walked down the aisle before do we think the dress will be extravagant or understated? I think most people would predict understated since that’s more typical for a second wedding, but her first wedding dress was extremely understated and simple, so I’m going to go with extravagant this go around! I expect to be wowed!
- Also, typically the Queen has to approve the gown…. will Meghan ask for the Queen’s approval?!? I think she will! Who wants to upset the Queen, right? Tell me you guys have watched The Crown on Netflix? If you haven’t, stop reading this post right now and go start it. Moral of the story, I wouldn’t be putting up a fight with the Queen, no way.
Four things I expect to see:
- Some kind of sleeve: Maybe off the shoulder? There are so many great off the shoulder gowns out there right now that create a beautiful portrait neckline. I see the sleeve being short or just an off the shoulder thiner strap. I think Kate nailed the long sleeve and I’m sure she wants to be different. Meghan’s style overall is very classic and clean, so I expect her to be somewhat buttoned up and traditional. Definitely some kind of strap or sleeve. Pictured: Modern Trousseau | Style: Gala
- Pattern: Bold patterns, whether they be from lace or some kind of beaded appliqué or embroidery, are really popular right now, so would expect some kind of interesting fabric that I think will really bring a fun, modern feel to a more traditional style gown. I’m thinking some layered lace appliqués with some intricate beading around the pattern could really give some beautiful dimension to her gown. Pictured: Hayley Paige | Style: Reagan.
- Silhouette: A-lines and ballgowns to tend to be the go to choice for the royals and since her first wedding dress was more of a sheath style, I can see her going with one of these traditional royal styles. She’s tiny, so an A-line would suit her really well. Shows off her figure through the waist, but still gives her the volume and feel of a big wedding gown…. can’t go wrong there! Its classic and timeless and will never go out of style. Pictured: Anne Barge | Style: Raquel
- Veil: No veil…. second wedding. Definitely a no 🙂 I say let’s give the girl a tiara and call it a day! Here are some of my favorites from my friends at Untamed Petals. I want these just to wear even though I’m not a bride! How amazing are these?!?
