Earlier this month, Daniel and I packed up the kids and headed to Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina and immediately upon arrival we knew we had found a little piece of Low Country heaven! We were lucky enough to spend Easter there, which was an experience in itself! There are so many things that we loved about this quaint, coastal resort, but one of the best things is that we were able to bring along our golden retriever, Maggie. And she had an absolute BLAST! The resort is so kid and pet friendly. We also loved how you can bike or walk to anywhere you want to go on the property. We stayed in the forest view cottages and each comes with its on set of bikes- adorable!
Sharing with you my top 5 things to do when visiting Palmetto Bluff…. and let me tell you…. it was HARD to narrow it down! Here is what I got for you, friends 🙂
1. Smores on the Lawn
Every night at Palmetto Bluff they do smores around these gorgeous brick fire pits overlooking the intercostal waterway. Kids and dogs are welcome and its self serve to all the marshmellows, graham crackers, and chocolate that you could want! The kids went crazy over this 🙂 And its the perfect time for parents to relax in the Adirondack chairs, enjoy an evening cocktail, and experience this fun past time with their kids! All I got to say is…. Treat yourself, friends!
2. Oyster Roast at Moreland Landing
Just a few miles from the inn you will find a lovely outdoor retreat which is a part of what’s known as “Moreland Landing” around the Bluff. Nestled up along the intercoastal waterway, you find this amazing outdoor pavillion along side a six story treehouse, where there are views for days. During the second night of our stay, the resort hosted an Oyster Roast where, not only where there incredible oysters being shucked, there were also all the southern fixings, a full bar set up, and a local band playing all our favorites. And of course, the huge oak trees lined with string lights created the perfect canopy for this Low Country evening under the stars…. Talk about a southern shin dig!
3. Bike or Kayak Tour of the Bluff
One of the best parts about Palmetto Bluff is that you never have to get in your car while there. Some areas don’t even allow cars. And if you are like us, you will NEVER want to leave the property. Biking is the preferred mode of transportation and you can even rent bike buggies for the kids! There is so much gorgeous southern architecture around Palmetto Bluff that you could spend an entire day just cruising around checking out all the beautiful houses. If biking isn’t your thing, renting a kayak is a good option and fun way to see the landscape. You can paddle through the lakes on property or head out to the sandbars just off the resort in the intercoastal waterway. There is also a lot of interesting history to explore when at Palmetto Bluff. They actually staff a full time archaeologist who is continually uncovering historic details about the property.
4. Breakfast at Buffalo’s
The most delicious southern breakfast you can ever imagine is at Buffalo’s Restaurant on property at Palmetto Bluff. They have a “Biscuit Bar” which is really just a buffet with anything and everything you could possibly want on it. My absolute favorite (outside of the busciuts & mimosas) was the cheese grits. I keep ordering cheeses grits back home and they are just don’t even compare… I would go back JUST for the cheese grits…. I’m not lying 🙂 They also serve lunch and dinner, so one night we grabbed a pizza to-go and brought it back to our cottage for dinner on our porch. It was perfect! Sorry, no pictures of the food friends…. I ate up everything before I had a chance to snag one!

5. Visit to the Spa
Mama needs some relaxation! So naturally, I took a morning and made my escape to the spa! Its fully equipped with anything and everything you could want: steamroom, sauna, hot tub, plunge pool, and a relaxation room with soft blankets and a fire place. Super cozy. One of my favorite things were the seersucker robes! How southern is that?!?! Its a relatively smaller spa in size, but I’m all about quality over quantity! I would highly suggestion the High Cotton massage treatment. I left relaxed and rejuvenated and ready to get back to my boys!
“It was truly one of our favorite resorts in the south that we have ever visited and we can’t wait to come back with our kids & Maggie. The experience and southern hospitality is beyond exceptional.”
Until next time Palmetto Bluff….. Cheers, Friends!
